A brief Lin anecdote

I often like to test my dad’s basketball intellect. In his childhood, he followed the game closely, but recently, he’s taken a particular proclivity to the game. I have been convinced for the past year or so that he only watches the Knicks because he feels the need to keep up with what I say, and I often badger him that he would not pay attention had I not taken such an interest in the sport.

So, about a week ago, I asked him who he thought Jeremy Lin made better on the basketball court. I told him I was thinking of two particular players.

He replied with, “Landry Fields, Bill Walker, and Steve Novak”, and he was right. I told him I was thinking of Jeffries and Chandler. He told me I was right.

And that’s probably the best thing about Lin from the perspective of a Knicks fan. He makes everyone better. Why not Carmelo Anthony?

We’ll find out tonight.

The difference between great players and great teams is the one or two guys on a team that make the players around them better. That is how many championships are won. Bird – Jordan – Magic – Frazier etc.
I think all the hype surrounding Lin will help Anthony accept his role as one of those players who can benefit from Lin’s special ability to bring them over the top. Go Knicks!
