10:22 PM: There’s a lot going on right now around the webs, but all of it is synonymous, the Knicks and the Nuggets have agreed to a trade. Carmelo Anthony is officially a Knick.
9:11 PM: The Denver Post reports that a “deal is nearly imminent.” Five minutes later, Alan Hahn tweeted that a “Carmelo Anthony trade expected to be finalized tomorrow.” Obviously, that is a huge break in the story. Good news that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
3:46 PM: According to Marc Stein, part of the holdup in a deal getting done is the difference in opinion between Nuggets head coach George Karl and the front office. Stein also reports that the Nuggets have forced Mozgov into the deal since Saturday to get Carmelo Anthony, but the Knicks have yet to agree to those terms.
3:05 PM: If it wasn’t news already, it is now. The Nets are apparently “throwing in the towel” for the chase for Carmelo Anthony, Chris Mannix claims.
1:03 PM: It looks like the New Jersey Nets could end up with a couple of Knicks, according to Chris Broussard. If Knicks would to complete trade, Mozgov and either one of Gallinari, Chandler or Felton would end up on the Nets. This would not be involved in the three team deal and be part of a completely separate trade.
9:11 AM: Alex Kennedy reports that the people he’s talked all say that this trade will be going down either today or tomorrow because the Nuggets still have pieces they want to deal, like Nene and Al Harrington.
2:38 AM: To add onto Ken Berger’s original trade, Marc Spears reports that particulars of the trade include Shelden Williams, Anthony Carter, and Renaldo Balkman being sent to the Knicks. Spears says that this is the final offer New York, and that they are unwilling to include Timofey Mozgov in the deal as well.
Sunday, 11:21 PM: ESPN’s Chris Broussard claims that the Nuggets have not given the Knicks an ultimatum. This stuff is getting so hard to handle at this point.
Sunday, 10:05 PM: According to Alan Hahn, it has come down to Mozgov being added to the package. Hahn notes that if the Knicks don’t include Mozgov, the Nuggets are threatening to trade Caremlo Anthony to the Nets. Melo would still need to sign off on a trade, but at this point, Hahn points out that his sources say Melo still won’t.
Sunday, 6:41 PM: An update to Berger’s original report about the details of the trade: Corey Brewer will be part of the trade and sent to the Nuggets as part of a package for Melo.
Sunday, 6:07 PM: Al Iannazzone of the Bergen Record claims his sources say that the Nets are still “confident” they are in it. Anything is possible, right?
Sunday, 5:44 PM: The Nuggets are still “looking over” both the New Jersey and New York deals, according to Marc Spears. He claims that it is doubtful Carmelo Anthony stays with Denver; I’m assuming the Nuggets are just making sure Anthony doesn’t want the Nets. It seems unlikely that a deal would go down today, but it could in a day or two.
Sunday, 4:24 PM (updated by Jeremy Snyder): Per Ken Berger, here are the exact details of just how the Carmelo trade will be going down if it indeed happens:
“The Knicks would send three starters – Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, and Raymond Felton — to Denver for Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams and Anthony Carter, sources said Sunday. The Nuggets would get the Knicks’ first-round pick in 2014, while Minnesota would get Eddy Curry’s expiring contract and Anthony Randolph from New York. Curry would then be waived, and the Knicks would send as much as $3 million to Minnesota to pay his freight. Carter must approve the trade and waive his Bird rights for the deal to be approved.”
Sunday, 2:40 PM (updated by Jeremy Snyder): Alan Hahn reports that Denver is not willing to rush to get the deal done, but other teams around the league are pressuring them. Many teams are hesitant to make a deal before Melo is dealt. According to one of his sources, Hahn says that “something could go down in Carmelo-Knicks trade [in] ‘about 24-48 hours’ with Tuesday possible day.”
Sunday, 1:37 PM: More signs of this thing carrying on to the trade deadline: Alan Hahn reports that a source tells Newsday that Knicks are not going to re-up their offer and that the doing the trade is up to Denver.
Sunday, 1:23 PM: Knicks release a statement from Dolan, Walsh, D’Antoni to make it clear that “in complete agreement with everything [they] are currently working on”, reports Alan Hahn. Also, the statement reportedly makes it clear that “no one outside our organization has been involved in this process in any way.” Very good news to counteract the Wojnarowski report earlier in the day.
Sunday, 10:58 AM: One source close to Tommy Dee of The Knicks Blog tells him that Donnie Walsh still remains a “big part” in the negotiations for Carmelo Anthony. A good sign that things are going the right way. As a Knick fan though, you just have to pray against the biggest PR disaster in New York history…
Sunday, 1:30 AM: At this point, why does HOOPSWORLD’s Alex Kennedy believe a deal hasn’t gone down yet? It has to do with the hype of All-Star Game, and putting more distractions on Melo. It seems like a deal is bound to go down after the All-Star Game or on Monday, bearing any major provisions to the trade.
Sunday, 1:13 AM: Ken Berger claims that the reason for Carmelo Anthony meeting with the Nets was because Denver forced him to hear New Jersey out if he was going to meet with Knicks. Call it Denver’s “quid pro quo”.
Sunday, 12:44 AM: Denver wants more in their package for Anthony, namely Timofey Mozgov, says Frank Isola. We’ve heard this before with the New Jersey deal. It’s clearly just amateur hour in the Nuggets front office. With that being said, Dolan has played a huge part in these negotiations, and that’s not a good thing; is it “amateur hour” for Knicks brass too?
Sunday, 12:05 AM: Adrian Wojnarowski reports that a source who was briefed on the meeting Melo had with the Nets tonight “didn’t come away very confident.” Good news for Knicks, but then there’s that Deron Williams guy?
Saturday, 10:07 PM: According to Chris Broussard, Carmelo Anthony met with the Nets for 40 minutes on Saturday night. After hearing the presentation he did not say whether he would accept a deal with New Jersey. This contradicts an earlier Stefan Bondy report claiming that Prokhorov had no plans to meet with Anthony, as well as Anthony claiming he had no meetings planned yesterday.
Saturday, 7:31 PM: Carmelo Anthony seemed like a lock to wear Knickerbocker blue and orange this afternoon, but apparently, not so fast. Frank Isola of the Daily News originally reported that the Nets are meeting with Melo tonight. Fifteen minutes later, national Yahoo! columnist Adrian Wojnarowski confirmed it as legitimate.
Saturday, 5:41 PM: Sources of Fanhouse’s Chris Tomasson tell him that Melo has “never changed his mind” about signing an extension with the Nets. Another sign that a deal with New Jersey was never going to go through.
Saturday, 5:15 PM: The “needle moving towards deal getting done”, says Tommy Dee of The Knicks Blog, who has been on this story since July 9.
Saturday, 4:16 PM: How does Amar’e feel about Melo “stealing” his throne? “There’s a lot of room in New York for another King,” Stoudemire said. Just a great quote that may give light to the happenings behind the next few days.
Saturday, 3:35 PM: Those close to Anthony say that he will not sign an extension with New Jersey, according to the New York Times’ Jonathan Abrams.
Saturday, 2:13 PM: Stefan Bondy reports that Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov released a statement saying that Prokhorov hasn’t had a meeting with Carmelo Anthony and does not plan to. This confirms what Melo originally said in his press conference yesterday.
Saturday, 1:49 PM: NBA TV claims that the Knicks could keep Danilo Gallinari and instead trade Landry Fields and Mozgov because that is what Denver prefers. Alan Hahn calls that “amazing”, but I disagree. Fields will fit better with Anthony and Stoudemire, along with Chauncey Billups.
Saturday, Friday, 4:19 PM: It has been confirmed by multiple writers that on Thursday night, James Dolan and Anthony did meet, as originally published by the Daily News.
Saturday, Friday, 3:00 PM: Why are the Knicks overpaying for Melo to begin with? Ask Jeremy Snyder.
