According to Chris Broussard, the Lakers are in talks to possibly acquire Carmelo Anthony.
It seems unlikely that Ron Artest will be included in a deal (washed up) however it’s likely that the trade will be centered around center Andrew Byum. I don’t blame Denver for looking for the best package; that is their job.
Although I think the Knicks will eventually get him, who knows? Twenty-four hours before The Decision, it was certain the Knicks would end up with LeBron. Now, where is he? Obviously the Knicks are in the best possession to land the coveted superstar, but would Melo sign off on LA? It’s definitely possible. Los Angeles hosts winning basketball. They will always be a championship contender come June. He’ll get his extension. Anthony’s wife will be able to work in the “west coast version” of New York. And from a basketball perspective alone, he would inherit Kobe’s throne.
If you are shaking your head at Melo and Los Angeles, my bet is you were shaking your head at James and Miami.
It all comes down to the fact that NBA players (superstars, in particular) don’t think on the same level that normal people do. Therefore, it’s very hard to predict what they are thinking.
If you want my guess, based on everything I’ve heard, it seems like Carmelo Anthony will be a Knick. All I’m saying though, is don’t count the chickens before they hatch.
